Flight Sim X

Flight Sim X is the 10th version of the standard and accepted versions of simulators.  This version was released in US in the later part of 2006.  This version is the latest version after Microsoft flight 2004. The flight simulator X has been marketed in three options; standard, deluxe and gold editions. This new version is compatible with Microsoft Windows Vista and has a graphics engine upgrade.

In a standard flight training version it provides features of 18 aircrafts, 40 airports and 28 cities, whereas the deluxe version has around 24 planes, 45 airports and substantial 38 cities which are detailed to perfection. This new  version is a technological achievement in the flight simulator series as of date.

In the deluxe version we have additional appliances like on-disc software development kit, airplanes with Garmin G1000 fight deck and inter- communicating device to control other users. The gold version is a combination with the deluxe and has more missions than the other two editions.

New features of flight sim X are that it offers combat flight simulator, online simulator and helicopter flight simulator, along with the following features.

a) An upgraded built in GPS support, improved ATC features, improved versions of aircrafts like the Airbus 321, improved weather device and better vision, improved multi-media and graphics giving a real effect of sound and sceneries, improved altitude from 99,999 ft to 100,000,000 ft (30,000,000 m), flexible wing which works in a realistic manner during flying in turbulence, etc.

b) The new flight simX is an exciting and innovative game combined with new technological improvised gadgets, advanced graphics showing weather conditions, season and condition of climate. The player can virtually see below moving cars, buildings in cities, movement of traffic in highways, landscapes and terrains and even forest and wildlife.

c) The mission-based combat flight games providing players with a specific purpose, they build their skills and indulge in games that are more aggressive, can. The Flight Simulator X offers 50 new missions and challenges you to complete the mission.

Flight Simulator X Review

Flight Simulator X, being the 10th version of this simulator which has brought the flight simulator games to its apex. It comes in two DVD's and is a huge package. It takes almost 45 minutes to complete the installation. The flight simulator X settings has been program coded by Microsoft with a new flight simulator for optimum results in its graphics, scenery and other objects. 

The menu is quite similar to Flight sim 9 and its inbuilt fight training sim. You start the  game with a small aircraft, for a quick assessment of its performance, you will observe that you are virtually in the cockpit of the aircraft and the requisite panels are in perfect view. As you start the plane, you get a clearance from the ATC to start for the runway. After you take off, and if you're near some beach, you will see the graphics playing into action and giving a view of new water effects such as waves, weather conditions and cloud visibility.

Online flight sim comes with 50 missions of cargo and rescue and is convenient for beginners as it has 20 games for them, 14 of the games are of level two and 10 are advanced games with 7 missions for experts. Many users have said that the graphics are better in flight simulator 9 than this version. But I feel, if you have a high end Windows Vista with the new Direct X you should have no problem and will have a perfect compatibility with the software.

The flight sim X requires Microsoft Windows Vista or XP SP2 with a processor higher than 1 GHz, the RAM should be 512 MB, the hard disc should have 14GB minimum space and other additional gadgets like DVD ROM, sound and graphic cards, etc. For online flight simulator players the modem should be a minimum of 56.6 Kbps or better with a perfect mouse.
