It's the shoulder or neck pain from a spinal problem?

Shoulder pain may result from any of the following typical problems.

1) arthritis of the shoulder, also known as degenerative joint disease (DJD)

2) rotator cuff problem as a torn rotator cuff

3) subacromial called impingement syndrome

4) cervical spinal stenosis

5) cervical disc herniation

6) There are a few others, these are the usual suspects

As you know, what is the generator of the pain? How do I know whatpain from a shoulder problem, neck problems come (cervical) or a combination of both? clear from a combination of medical history, physical examination and imaging techniques, the overall response.

If there is still a dilemma is, an injection used in the shoulder, both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. If the pain comes from impingement syndrome, an injection of pain medication (anesthesia plus / minus the steroids) in the spacecalled the subacromial space can be largely or completely reduced pain within minutes. If the pain is alleviated in full, you can be pretty sure that the subacromial space pathology causing the pain.

If the patient X-ray should show significant degenerative joint disease of the shoulder, a shot in the shoulder should be considered. Technically it is an injection difficult, but if carried out properly and the pain decreases significantly thenvoila, mission accomplished.

If the patient has a herniated disc in the neck, called cervical disc herniation, can cause shoulder pain. Even if a patient's spinal stenosis of the neck, one or more nerve roots of arthritis can be compressed. The cervical spinal stenosis, pinched nerve that (s) can cause significant shoulder pain and can be seen as the result of a shoulder problem, while in reality it is not.

Note that even if a personShoulder pain from a cervical spine problem has been created, the patient can no neck pain at all. So this means it is not a prerequisite for the creation of the neck of the culprit.

So if the injections help shoulder (s) whether or not the person only partially relieve the pain and the patient has a problem in the neck, injection (s) may be performed in the neck. These are usually epidural injections around the nerve roots from herniated disc or pinched nerveThe roots are stuck with spinal stenosis.

Define the pain can be either the shoulder or neck injection injections to specify where the pain is relieved generated. In connection with the information from the clinical history and physical examination and imaging techniques, physicians should be able to rank fairly accurately the source of pain.
